To the Years of Constant Blessings

To the years of constant blessings,

Thanking God for another
 year in my life

Today is extra special since today is her birthday. It’s another day to unfold the past years where she was able to emerge from life’s greatest call of challenges. Her life for thirty-nine years was never a smooth-sailing ride but throughout her journey, she saw both her strengths and weaknesses. She witnessed the things she’s able to surpass and unleash new-found courage in her. She knew she’s not like anyone else for she’s able to still find lessons behind bad days.

She considers herself lucky enough to be surrounded by genuine people who never left her when the sun shows up. Her husband is her good sight example of a hardworking parent. She admires how his husband is willing to do anything just to support the family. He works diligently and decently as a researcher, book writer, online buy and sell, business consultant and anything else he could think of that requires his wit and talent. She also wakes up every morning knowing how blessed she is for having their two sons —their motivation and one of the reasons why they wanted to be better people. Her sons who calls her “Nanay” are all well-loved and everything they need is always met and provided. She always looks forward to giving their sons the comfort of home and that they are free to grow and discover themselves.

She too is a hardworking woman who wanted to take every opportunity that is served on her table. She does their daily online schooling, serves them the best food, she does house cleaning, laundry, and anything to make their home a better place. Most of the time, everything leads to exhaustion but she knows it’s all worth it. She is still eager to do the same routine every day if that would mean, giving her family the light feeling of safety and love. She made sure that her kids are raised with good manners and impart them Christian values. Somehow she knew that being a mother is her calling for she’s raising kids for the Kingdom of Heaven. She makes sure that her kids know what’s right and what’s wrong, that they can sympathize, feel things freely, explore their growth, treat people with kindness and humility using the guidance and fear of God.

Thankful to God

For her, they are her definition of receiving the best gift of life —her all-out fun, and loving family. Just by looking at them, she knew it’s all worth the fight and exhaustion. She knew that her heart is so full of love that she’ll never run out of it when it comes to her family. They are her definition of immeasurable happiness that no amount of luxury in this world could ever trade for. Her birthday wish will always fall towards her family’s sake. That they will continue to grow in harmony and have God in the center of everything that they do. She knew that there are more challenges in the future but she knew they could make it together as long as they’ll remain as a team. Every day she received her gift through her family and she’s always thankful for that.

There’s no such thing as perfect life for the perfect life is boring. What she had is a life filled with newly discovered riches through experiences, memories of watching how they grow at the same pace, and hearing the noise inside a home that represents unconditional love. More so, she’s thankful for another year because it all means she’s here for a reason and a purpose.

Today is My 16th

It's not so easy to be different from the people who seem to be all the same. I do not usually explain why I am odd and peculiar but I guess, people will always wonder why, from their sight, I am an unfamiliar being: my looks, my views, and, generally, my belief and my faith.

I have always been like this since sixteen years ago - I chanced on knowing God's Words. And it sounds weird to this modern world, when people ask me why I am like this, I answer, "Kasi dito ako naliwanagan."

I tried walking away when my mind was giving up but God is so kind that He blessed  me with so many second chances.

I always say that I am unworthy. Even now. Or should I say, especially now. I am unworthy of His goodness. But I am grateful that, I feel, He still wants me here.

Today is my 16th year in the Church. I might not be as fervent as I was when I first knew Him but even if myself is divided to many obligations now, I feel that my faith in God will not be shaken; as if it is rooted in the deepest part of me and can never be taken away by anyone else. I know it is because of His endless mercy and love and faith, as well.

I do not want to excuse or justify myself why I am like this. I suppose it will always sound unusual to them but I pray that they, too, will understand one day why I am choosing this life; The life with God. The life with God's protection and mercy and love.

Life with Him is hopeful. With Him, I am protected and not lost. Endless security I cannot enumerate all. I am just so thankful for today and for the first day He took me in.

Glory to God and to Christ Jesus for everything that I am and I have. Thankful for everything I am not and do not have. Happy 16th to me. TGBTG!

The One That Got Away

Just recently, I got reconnected to my highschool friends and batchmates thru Facebook. I was added to our FB group chat. So fun reading the thread and how the conversation was running, with all the teasing and joking and reminiscing. The group met up last Saturday. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go. Last minute advice, I wasn't ready to go out and the kids will be left behind.

So anyway, while back reading the messages, I passed through a photo so familiar but not quite clear as I am using a tiny outdated celfone I borrowed from my Kuya. When I thought I knew the picture, I browsed back and waited for the photo to clear the blurred pixelated parts and true to my hunch, when I zoomed properly, it's a picture from 20 years ago with my highschool friends that I only get to see on Facebook, my childhood bestfriend who just lives nearby our subdivision and I still get to be with occasionally and my highschool ex boyfriend I never get to talk to at all for 2 decades!

This single photo called in lots of memories from my teenage days when I was still ignorant how life really meant, when I thought that lovelife is everything that makes the world go around! Silly me :)  I was on my fourth year when we dated. It was young love and it was memorable.

Honestly, this would be the first time I ever get to recall this after 1997 and it is quite difficult to dig out those past events from twenty years back. So this is my disclaimer: I am narrating to the best of my knowledge and true to my belief. If there would be anything that I cannot confidently recall, I will say so. Otherwise, this is what I remember with our story:

During our Senior year, not bragging but he was one of the most eligible Seniors in our batch, if not the most. He was a volleyball varsity player and maaan! he was really fresh and handsome with dimples and all, white complexion and doing pretty well in studies, he did not seem to be arrogant or braggy and looked very humble with no boo boo attitude at all. His name was all around our school and my goodness, I wonder if there was anybody who did not know the name Gideon Oroceo!

I know him because he was famous at school. I really find him good looking and always neat wearing his uniform. When playing volleyball, I often see him sweaty but never greasy. He was always presentable even under the heat of the sun. But apparently, at first, I never thought that he was attractive, for me atleast. Maybe because he was not my type and partly because my classmate who was close to me and he were an item (I had always believed that there was something going in between them. Not officially together but something like MU - mutual understanding - MU was the tag during our time, it was late '90s),  and mainly because I was eyeing for someone else, X2.

It was around the second quarter of the school year when all along I thought X2 and I were seemingly being a sweet couple for about a month or two, he suddenly dumped me and it was devastating! I liked him so much that I thought it was love during that time. Haha I gave him gifts and wrote him love letters on those fragrant stationary pad papers. Fancy! But he just threw it all away. Damn! Heartbreak it was.

Kodak Moment: stolen shot by our friends I didn't know existed
until they showed me this in one of our girl bondings.
/ Sometime a little bit after that event in my highschool life, Jigs (his nickname) happened to me. If my memory serves me right, one of my classmates, Onin, a good friend to him, introduced him to me one ordinary morning, outside our classroom during our breaktime. From a closer look, i thought that he became more good looking, his dimples deeper. I noticed his good set of white teeth and shiny h air that compliments his round, soft looking face. I don't really remember now what our first conversation was all about but I know that the girl I was during that time felt pretty and beautiful. Oh yah, I wrote down my phone number on his palm. Haha That I remember well! And as he was walking away going back to his classroom (and me going back in to my class) I thought to myself that maybe, just maybe, I was dreaming.

Walking home after our CAT activity.
I remember him always tagging along whenever I was going on CAT activities and competitions. There was also a time that he was teaching me how to play volleyball. My friends who happened to be his classmates and Onin became closer together as the two of us also got to know each other better. While me  and my classmate who was close to me eventually became cold to each other and naturally went on apart, I chose to grab the chance to be with Jigs against all odds (he clarified to me though that they were not together). With all of these, it was so easy to fall for him. I do not remember anymore how we ended up being  boyfriend and girlfriend but I remember that as I knew him further, I learned that he was such a sweet person, funny, smart, gentleman, and so fun to be with. He gave me gifts I dont specifically remember now. No celphones yet but we always always kept in touch.  Our landline phone that time was always busy because we were talking to each other everynight even after we see each other in school and we would still see one another the day after. He was very thoughtful and I felt loved and taken care of.

Dont remember this moment anymore but I suppose this was
taken at Masagana Mall near our school after classes

I remember that we only lasted for three months because I hurt him big time when I told him that though I love him, I still like X2. At that time, I never thought that telling your boyfriend that you like someone else is brutal and rude and fatal and unacceptable. But how would I know? I was 15. I was just learning about love that time. I remember it was December of 1997, during our 2 week Christmas vacation, that we broke up and I can still recall how Boyz II Men's Four Seasons of Loneliness brought tears to my eyes every time I hear the song played on the radio. And I was a radio addict then plus the song was a hit so the chances of being it played over and over was endless haha though confused, I cried a lot that we didn't click. Can't really remember what happened but I recall that we got back together on January 1998 when classes resumed but did not last.  I know that he was a very good person and it is impossible not to like him but I was still young and I really know nothing about serious love that time. Immature me. No regrets - just lesson learned.

When we graduated from Highschool, I had a picture of us taken by my mom. Though I never introduced Jigs to my family, how I wish they could have met him at least. (Now, I am suddenly wondering where have all my HS graduation pics gone?!) And before we finally lose the connection, last time we talked, he told me about Maybeline. She was his childhood friend and that they were going out.

And then I entered College. Then I graduated and flew to Japan to live with my family and study more. Came back to Manila then worked in Singapore. When I settled back here in the Philippines, 20 years now had passed, now, Im married to a very diligent, loving and God-fearing husband and we got two beautiful children, I dont remember Jigs and I having a chance to reconnect. He comes in my mind from time to time, very rare though but never completely out of it. Nothing really serious, just wondering how life has been.

Now going back to reality: Three days ago, when I saw the old picture on our FB group chat, his name came back to  me and it's never been easier to look for his FaceBook  profile. Not so long I found myself looking at his photos with his wife and his kids, now on the other side of the world. With no pretentions, I am happy for him that he has made a beautiful family. I tried to add him as a friend with big hopes he won't snob. Relieved, he accepted. I sent him private message right away saying It's me Ellay. How are you doing? When he replied a little later than two hours with he's ok and that he's at work and asking me as well how am I doing and if i got 2 kids now. I got to answer back after some few hours with full of excitement that I can finally gain back a long lost friend.

Not for anything else, I am just happy to hear and know anything about what happened in a long time we lost the communication. But it's been three days now that I was not replied to. Did not see that coming tho. Nonetheless, I understand if I'd be disregarded. Not a big deal. Might be that he's not comfortable in anyway or could also be because someone might get hurt or just simply he opts to keep the distance the way it's been. No hard feelings. Whatever it is, I am perfectly fine just to be a virtual FB friend, no more no less, to the one that got away.

*This has nothing to do with my relationship with my husband. I just wanted to share some good old memories. Please do not get me wrong, friends. Thanks!

Repost: to my future daughter in law

Oh my! Tears in my eyes while reading and after reading this:

http://www.foreverymom.com/a-letter-to-my-future-daughters-in-law-he-wont-complete-you/

To my future daughters-in-law,
I have a few things I want to say to you. This can’t possibly cover it all, but luckily, we have some time.
I don’t know you yet, but already, I love you. I love you so much, because some day, you will love my son. And he will return that love.
There will come a day that this sticky, messy, silly little boy will be yours. He will always be mine, but you will take my place in many ways.
Someday your hand will replace mine. Your eyes will be his peace and your heart will be his home.
It’ll be you he kisses goodnight.
It’ll be you he shares his dreams with.
It’ll be you who comforts him when he is scared.
It’ll be you who holds his heart. The same heart that beats against my chest as I hold him each night.
Someday, darling, that will be you.
I always thought I would have a daughter. Now I know that’s you. I want you to know I pray for you every day, just as I pray for my sons.
Right now, you’re everything to your own parents, just as my sons are everything to me. I pray you are cherished. Delighted in. Upheld and believed in. I pray you are being taught to love yourself first, because without that strong love, you will not be as equipped to love others successfully. I pray you are shown every day what a gift you are. I pray that if that message is somehow missed by those around you, you always know that when God looks at you, He sees His princess.
I am raising my son to view you that same way.
I pray you understand your worth and that you respect yourself. That you are being shown to respect others just the same. I pray that you are not afraid to share your voice, but that you use it to speak life; not only to yourself and others you encounter, but to my son. Men need you to speak life into them.
I want you to know that although I will make a lot of mistakes, I am committed to raising my son to honor you. I cannot take full credit, nor blame, for his beauty or his flaws. My own mom taught me that.
He is his own man. He has his own quirks and idiosyncracies. You’ll figure those out as you go; and someday, you too will know him better than anyone else in the world. Give him the space to be himself, and I will teach him to do the same for you.
He won’t complete you. And you won’t complete him. Only God can do that. But I pray you edify each other and encourage each other to be even better together than you are on your own.
I promise to let you in. To share my secrets and knowledge of him so that you can love him best. When the time comes, I will trust you with his heart, just as you will trust him with yours. I do not take this heart exchange lightly, and I pray you don’t either. I am raising him to understand the value of a woman’s heart. That it’s priceless, and once broken, can never go back to the way it was before.
That’s not always a bad thing, but if we can avoid it, I don’t want my son to be the one who breaks your heart. I also want you to remember that he can’t be the one to heal it. Again, only God can do that. But I will raise my son to forever cherish the gift that is you and your love. I will teach him to understand your value. To honor and respect you, as you do him.
I strive to raise my boys in such a way that they learn how to be strong, yet vulnerable. Brave, yet humble. Courageous and fearless, yet unafraid to ask for help. That they are leaders but know how to follow. I pray he leads you well and understands the honor it is to be in that role. I pray he serves you, but that you never take advantage of his sacrifice.
I pray he fully understands his role as a man and that he lives his life with integrity, honor, humility, honesty, faith and humor. That he knows who he is first in Christ and then within himself. I pray he follows his dreams and passions and that nothing stands in the way of that, to include you. I pray the same for you.
I am committed to raising my son to be independent and never to look to you to be his mother, because I will have stood in that role well. I vow to be fully present for him. To teach him what he needs to know about women and how special they are. I promise to raise him in such a way that he always remembers you are someone’s daughter and that you belonged to him after you belonged to God and your parents.
I pray that with each day you love my son, your love swells and overflows. I pray the same for him. I hope as the two of you build a life together, that you never forget how that life was built. Stand strong together. You will need each other in this life. Though I am teaching him towant you rather than to need you, there will be times that he will need you. And you will need him. Be there.
Support each other. Love each other. Choose each other.
The noise of the world will be loud. It won’t always be easy. There may be days that you look at him and question every decision you ever made. In those moments, I pray you will fall back on the foundation you built together and remember why you chose to stand there.
I promise you that each day, I will teach my son these same lessons. I will plant seeds of love in his heart every moment. I promise to show him how to take care of himself. How to do the laundry and the dishes, and to never expect you to do it all. How to be your partner. I promise to foster his sensitivity while praising his strength. To teach him how to be open and to hold your words when they spill from your lips and into his hands. I promise to teach him how to catch them. To hold you. To love you. All of you. To see you for you, not what you can offer him.
I promise to raise him to be enough within himself so that he can then be enough for you.
We’ve got a lot of years before we meet. But each day between now and then, I will pray for you. I will love you. And when I meet you, I will love you even more than I already do. Because you will love my son. And you’ll become my daughter.

How am I as a Mom?

I struggle so much with patience as a mom. And I feel guilty - guilty over doing and not doing everything. I am not perfect. I am always a work in progress and sometimes, I wonder if I could ever be a good mother. I love my kids, dont get me wrong. But sometimes, I get emotionally frustrated, I yell at my 1 year old son, I get annoyed by my 2 month old son who wakes up at 2,3,4,5,6,7 in the morning... I know they are kids but sometimes, I think I am crazy and mad and I dont understand them, even myself... And then I feel more guilty. I dont think I am doing any good. I wonder how my kids see me as their mom. I will always wonder until I can get to ask them.

Oh my... I'm gonna cry :(

October 20 Baby

Here is our second baby boy, Zeo. Normal delivery by a private OB in a humble maternity clinic near our home. He was a big little Zeo at 3.5 kilos when he got out of me, cord coiled and turned bluish black because of the strangling. But thank God for each perfect moment of my last hardest push, the perfect moment when they catched the baby, the perfect moment when the doctor cut the cord around the baby's neck, and all other perfect moments I can't remember anymore.

Now, on his 2nd week here on the outside world (outside the womb, that is), he drinks lotsa lotsa milk from the cow (formula), and some power breastmilk from human (me).

I am happier compared to my 1st born. I had post partum depression last time I gave birth but this time, I seem to be more prepared and readier to face the mother duties and challenges.

Basta, all great thanks to God.

Meet Zeo Xeven MT, the new gangster in town :)

I love you, Kid! - Nanay

Momma Talk

Today is my day off from work. Last night, we sent off my son's yaya, aiai, to the airport for a 2 week vacation to her hometown in GenSan. My fear of her not coming back again is like 95% but 5% is all about holding on to her words that she'll come back on August 27. I helped her buy her plane ticket via Cebu Pacific's piso fare promo 2 months ago. When she told me that she wanted to have a break and go home for a vacation, I, right away, understood her feelings. It is really exhausting taking care of a child and at the same time, keeping the house in order. It is really tiring and really stressful. It has been a year since she joined our family as a house help. So, i think, she deserves a break. But you know, if I were selfish, I wouldnt allow her to leave.

So starting yesterday, my mother-in-law is looking after hariell until the next 2 weeks. But it's different because unlike aiai, my MIL is kind old already and I always worry that she's gonna get tired quickly because hariell is really malikot! but  my husband is always reassuring me that everything's gonna be okay. but as you already know me, i worry about everything!

Today, i left the house to go to the bank and i told MIL that i'll be back soon but here I am in a computer shop blogging my thoughts and feelings. I am 6 1/2 month pregnant and the yaya is on vacation, i have a lot of assisting to do when it comes to my MIL taking care of my baby, not to mention that i am always supposed to leave the house with prepared food for the whole day. And yah, have to tell instructions, too. How am i supposed to take care of myself and the little one inside me? I still have to go to work from cavite to malate 6 days a week with a crazy schedule.

I am way too burned out :(
Sorry :(
Okay, I am going to buy some vegetables after this and I'll go back home to cook our lunch. (yes, no lunch yet) I bet my baby tazmanian hariell will welcome me with a tantrum and later will hit and kick my tummy again. I love life!
Geez.
Bye. I whine too much.

Open Letter of a Trying Hard Mom

.
.
.
I am not perfect. I am not even close to being perfect neither even close to the best or even better. I am not even sure if I am good... I mean, if I am being a good mother to my son. I often feel bad and feel guilty about everything being a mom. And today, I feel so sad overthinking and overfeeling all my lapses and insuffiencies. It's tough, actually. I just want to cry and scream silently hoping God would hear my heartaches.

I am wishing my guilt about everything won't control me. Sometimes, it's so difficult to endure the guilt whenever I leave home for work and let my precious son spend the day again with the nanny. All I could do is tell the nanny to please take care of him but after that, I am not even sure how she takes care of my son when all that is left is the two of them at home. I could only pray to God that my son is safe and that the nanny will be good to my baby.

But how could I take away my thoughts of wondering what food he had for the day, how his rashes are improving or aggravating, did his head bump against anything, is he always being kept clean by the nanny when all that I could be is to be with him for some few hours in a day, mostly it's either he's asleep or I am asleep (or sleepy). Just confessing these is hurtful for me. I really feel like a bad mom.

For a week, I only have one day off from work and whenever I do not go to work, in my mind and in my heart, I want to spend all my time with my husband and my son. If only I could take care of my baby 24 hours and not get tired! But all I could do is to carry him for a while and after some few minutes, put him back to his baby crib or give him back to the nanny or to his father because I easily get exhausted because of my pregnant condition. Which also adds a few more extra guilt in me thinking that if only I was not pregnant, maybe I could play with my son more often, maybe I could carry him more frequently, maybe I could teach him more baby tricks and stay up more late to cuddle him some more or talk to him how our day did.

Seeing some other moms seem to have everything in place and having their kids have those "It toys" also makes me feel guilty not being able to buy my dearest baby some of those  deluxe  Fisher-Price that lights up, talks and sounds when pressed... But my husband never seemed to be bothered by these little things. He always tells me that Hariell doesn't even know yet what he is playing and that those that I am thinking as "necessary" aren't. What our son really needs is us and our love and God's grace and not those expensive toys that mostly are just banged against the wall or the floor or even on our faces. <pfffftt!>

Sure my husband knows how to pacify my over-reacting feeling and I am thankful for that. How I wish I could also be more kind to myself. This is breaking, you know?

But then again, I would always imagine that Hariell would tell me that I am just doing fine :)

My USANA Stress Assessment Exam

FAMILY MATTERS AND STRESS

Raising a child can be incredibly stressful-even for the best of parents. Combat the stress you face as a parent by doing the following:

Get sufficient rest: Sleep deprivation makes everyone's day more difficult to cope with. Without sufficient rest, your brain's ability to problem solve is greatly impaired. Decision-making abilities are compromised, and the brain falls into rigid thought patterns that make it difficult to generate new problem-solving ideas. Be sure to allow yourself some time to catch up on the rest you need.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet: Start by buying a week's worth of fresh food on Sunday, and then wash, prep, and store that food so it's ready to go for the rest of the week. Just be sure each meal includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep your immune system functioning at its best, as well as foods containing slow-release (low-glycemic) carbohydrates such as whole grain pasta and brown rice to keep your energy levels up.

Find time for yourself: Take just a few minutes out of every day to focus on yourself, rather than the needs of others. Read your favorite book, listen to music, or pursue your hobbies.

Exercise: Exercise is a great, natural stress reducer.

Talk about your feelings: Sharing your worries with someone else is one of the best stress relievers. Unfortunately, communication is often the first thing to be neglected in a relationship, whether it's with your partner, family, or friends, but sharing your feelings can help strengthen your relationships.

MARRIAGE AND STRESS

Many studies have found that being married or maintaining a committed, steady romantic relationship may help you manage your stress and improve your overall quality of life.

But stress is a powerful thing, and small marital problems can become exaggerated when you or your partner take your personal stresses out on each other. And the results of such behavior can be devastating.

Take these steps to deal with any stress in, or outside, your marriage :

Take time to decompress: After a stressful day at work, many people need time alone to decompress before they're ready to talk. And forced conversation is never a good thing. Allow yourselves a few minutes to get your bearings straight. Watch some television, read a few pages of your favorite book, or even sit outside and catch some sunshine if the weather permits.

Teamwork: Work with each other. Being in a marriage is like being on a team. In order for you both to be successful, you need to support each other. That's why you need to communicate and talk about the details of your day. Sharing your feelings can help strengthen your partnership. If your feelings are out in the open, you'll be less likely to "blow up" and take the day's stresses out on your partner. You can help each other by practicing active listening techniques and being positive and supportive.

Don't point fingers: You may often find that your partner is the most available target for blame when you're stressed. Try to see things from your spouse's point of view. This will help you to see where the other person is coming from, which will increase your understanding of the situation. Don't assume that you are the one who has all the answers.

My Longest Salutation

my longest salutation

Years back, I always wanted the world to know how I am feeling, where I have been, where I am going, what I am eating, who I am going out with, what I am thinking and everything more. I liked the feeling of sharing myself with the web. But since Happy and I got back together, more so that we have our on family, it's putting me at peace when I keep happy thoughts and happy moments to myself. That way, people can't take away my happiness.

It's been a trend nowadays of social media to tweet and post things what people have been upto. I see my "old" self whenever I see them "overpost" pics and updates. But, I've been there, I've done that. I am happier sharing myself only with few people who I know and who I love. I prefer it that way :)

Now, my blogging... I am keeping this so I can have a track of my "weirdo" days and my "happy" days :) But those too personal stuff, I'd keep it in me. Also my FB and Twitter accounts... But if you wanna know about something, ask me. I reply. lol
